Frederic Edwin ChurchFrederick Edwin Church was born into a very wealthy family in Hartford, Connecticut. His families wealth is primarily made from his father who was a silversmith and a watchmaker. Growing up in such a wealthy family Church was able to start his career as a painter at a very early age. At the early age of 18 Church became a pupil under Thomas Cole, after a family friend introduced them together. Church would go onto be a part of the second generation of the Hudson River School Thomas Cole primarily established. Church was considered the "Michelangelo of Landscape Art" by many Americans. Church would later go onto marrying Isabel Carnes and live on a farm in Hudson, New York. Both Churches first son and daughter died of Diphtheria. He and his wife started a new family and would have four children.
The Heart of the Andes is my favorite piece of art by Frederic because of it's peaceful and calm nature. |
